Signify announced a new Philips Hue range on June 16, 2026, combining wired wall controls, three Play lamps and upgraded candle bulbs. The clearest energy-related change is a company claim that the new candle bulbs are 40% more energy efficient than the previous generation.
Wired controls bring smart lighting back to the wall
The new controls are the Philips Hue Wired On/Off Switch, Wired Dimmer Switch and Wired Wall Switch Module. Signify says the On/Off and Dimmer switches can control compatible traditional, non-smart lights through the Hue app alongside Philips Hue products. Users can also configure smart-light behaviours directly on the switch, including scrolling through scenes.
The Wall Switch Module targets a separate everyday issue. According to Signify, it needs no battery and keeps Philips Hue lamps powered and connected. It can also preserve the last selected scene or setting instead of returning to a default setting after the wall switch is used.
That distinction matters in homes where someone may still turn off the light at the physical switch. The module is intended to keep the connected lamp available to the Hue system while preserving the selected setting. The announcement does not describe additional installation requirements, so compatibility and fitting details will need to be checked in the product information for each home.
The 40% figure applies to specific candle bulbs
The upgraded Philips Hue candle bulbs use full-spectrum daylight technology and offer a broad range of colour temperatures, Signify says. However, the 40% efficiency claim is based specifically on a comparison with earlier Philips Hue candle bulbs carrying product references 929002294403, 929002294404, 929003021101 and 929003021102.
It is therefore a generation-to-generation product comparison, not a promise that every household will cut its lighting bill by 40%. The announcement provides no wattage comparison, purchase price or estimated annual household saving. Those missing figures prevent a calculation of the financial payback from the announcement alone.
The bulbs support Matter and are intended for decorative fixtures, chandeliers and wall lights. Matter could make them easier to include in a wider smart-home setup, while the efficiency claim gives existing Hue owners a reason to examine replacement lighting. Whether replacing working bulbs makes practical sense will depend on the purchase cost, the existing models and how often the lights are used.
Play lamps focus on atmosphere
Philips Hue is also introducing a Play table lamp, a compact floor lamp and a large floor lamp. Signify says the lamps create dynamic effects synchronised with films, games and music. They expand the range’s entertainment and ambient-lighting options, but the stated 40% energy-efficiency comparison applies to the new candle bulbs, not to the Play lamps.
European availability starts in June
Signify says the three wired switches are expected to become available in Europe from June 2026 through philips-hue.com and selected retailers. The Play lamps and next-generation candle bulbs are expected in Europe, North America and certain other markets from June 2026 through the same channels.
